Sitting With Jesus Before We Serve

Every Monday, I minister to our MH team, and last week the Lord led us back to the story of Mary and Martha. It’s a passage many of us know, but it felt important to slow down and really sit with it again. I wanted to share this with you as we begin the week.

In Luke 10, we see Martha busy serving and Mary sitting at Jesus’ feet, listening to His words. Martha was doing good things. She was caring for her home and her guests. Jesus didn’t tell her she was wrong. He gently reminded her that Mary chose what was needed most in that moment.

As we talked about this together, one truth stood out. What we do can change. Our roles, our work, and our responsibilities can shift. But who we are in Christ never changes. That is why time with Jesus matters so much.

This teaching wasn’t about stopping the work or doing less. It was about putting Jesus first. When we sit with Him before we move into our day, our hearts stay aligned. We hear His voice more clearly. We carry our responsibilities with more peace.

I shared with our team how easy it is to jump straight into the day without first turning our attention to the Lord. When we skip that time, we often feel rushed, distracted, or worn down by the end of the day. But when we begin by sitting with Jesus, even for a few moments, it brings order to everything else.

There is a time for serving. And there is a time for sitting at His feet. Being busy isn’t the issue. Neglecting time with the Lord is.

As you step into this week, don’t rush past that moment with Jesus. Don’t wait until later in the day. Begin there. Open His Word. Speak His name. Let Him lead before you move forward.

Prayer for the week

“Jesus, help us to choose the good part. Teach us to sit with You before we serve. Draw our hearts back to You and help us walk through this week with You leading every step. Amen.”

This encouraged our MH team last week, and my prayer is that it stays with you too. As you move into this week, choose the good part. Sit with Jesus first, and let everything else flow from there.
